Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central launches Da Vinci X, brings advanced robotic-assisted surgery to Mumbai

New surgical platform combines surgeon expertise with enhanced 3D visualisation, precision and minimally invasive access

Mumbai, October 13, 2026: Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central has launched the Da Vinci X Robotic Surgical System, strengthening its advanced surgical capabilities and bringing next-generation robotic-assisted technology to its Mumbai Central facility.

The technology combines high-definition 3D visualisation, wristed instruments and surgeon-controlled robotic arms, allowing surgeons to perform complex movements with greater precision through small incisions. Importantly, the robot does not operate independently—the surgeon remains in control of the system throughout the procedure.

Robotic-assisted surgery can be used for appropriately selected procedures across multiple surgical specialties, including urology, gynaecology, gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery, among others. Its minimally invasive approach can be particularly useful in procedures where access to confined anatomical spaces and precise tissue handling are important.

For suitable patients, robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery may offer potential advantages such as smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, less postoperative pain and a faster return to normal activity, although recovery varies depending on the procedure and individual patient factors.

Dr. Virendra Chauhan, Regional Business Head – India, Group Head International Business, Wockhardt Hospitals, said,
“Robotic-assisted surgery represents an important evolution in minimally invasive surgery. With Da Vinci X, surgeons have access to enhanced visualisation and highly articulated instruments that can support precise movements during complex procedures. The technology does not replace surgical expertise; it adds another layer of precision and control to it. Our focus will be on using this technology appropriately for patients who can benefit from a minimally invasive approach.”

Zahabiya Khorakiwala, Managing Director, Wockhardt Hospitals, said,
“Healthcare is entering an era where technology is increasingly becoming an integral part of how complex care is delivered. The introduction of Da Vinci X at Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central reflects our commitment to bringing advanced surgical technologies to our patients and clinical teams. We want to create an environment where experienced clinicians have access to contemporary tools that can expand surgical possibilities while keeping patient care at the centre.”

The Da Vinci X system adds to Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central’s existing focus on advanced surgical infrastructure and technology-driven care. The platform is designed to provide surgeons with greater dexterity and control while enabling minimally invasive approaches in procedures where clinically appropriate.

With the launch of Da Vinci X, Wockhardt Hospitals Mumbai Central aims to further expand access to robotic-assisted and minimally invasive surgical care, combining advanced technology with multidisciplinary clinical expertise.
