Tata Group Joins Hands with IISc

The Tata IISc Medical School will introduce integrated MD-PhD and dual degree programs, aiming to develop a new generation of physician-scientists and medical technologists.

According to a memorandum of understanding (MoU), the Tata Group will contribute ₹500 crore to support the establishment of the medical school, as stated in a release.

Centre of Excellence

The Tata IISc Medical School is set to become a centre of excellence, pioneering a unique model of clinical research and medical education in India. By integrating basic science and engineering with clinical science and practice, the school aims to transform healthcare and medical innovation.

The focus will span a range of specialties, including:

• Oncology
• Cardiology
• Neurology
• Nephrology
• Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders
• Infectious Diseases
• Integrative Medicine
• Public Health

This institution will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medicine in India, fostering advanced research and producing world-class medical professionals.

Innovative Education Model

The Tata IISc Medical School will introduce integrated MD-PhD and dual degree programs, creating a new generation of physician-scientists and medical technologists. Students will receive interdisciplinary training in both medical and science/engineering labs at IISc, combining clinical practice with cutting-edge research.

Global Collaboration

The institution will collaborate with renowned international medical schools, offering students global exposure to expertise, knowledge, and practices. This unique model of clinical research and training aims to inspire similar initiatives across the country.

N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said, “Healthcare is one of India’s biggest challenges and also one of its greatest opportunities, given the scale at which technology will be able to transform everything from diagnosis to care and community health.” He added that the institute’s emphasis on cutting-edge research and global collaboration will create a highly qualified cadre of physician-scientists trained in the latest approaches to modern medicine. “Their effect will be felt across the spectrum of healthcare, and will help individuals access quality treatment. I believe that the Tata IISc Medical School will play a significant role in keeping our communities healthy and positioning India at the forefront of the global healthcare revolution,” he added.
